GalleryWatch.com announces 2002 Seminars

WASHINGTON, DC (1/13/2002)

GalleryWatch.com announces the release of its upcoming 2002 Seminar series with topics that range from exploring and understanding the federal budget to an introduction to grassroots lobbying on The Hill.

The 2002 series is a result of GalleryWatch.com's very successful trial seminar program in 2001, according to Director of Marketing Rusty Roddy. "We had great turnout and great response from our seminars last year," he said, "which encouraged us to continue to provide this service for our clients."

Roddy said GalleryWatch.com has developed a six-step step series of seminars that are designed to help legislative professionals better understand the legislative process, how Congress works, and how to lobby Congress.

The budget is the emphasis of many of this season's seminars and participants will benefit from expert commentary and explanations from GalleryWatch's George Krumbhaar, who has kept a finger on the pulse of federal budgetary issues for years as founder and managing editor of usbudget.com. Krumbhaar is an 18-year veteran of Capitol Hill.

Krumbhaar's Hill experience includes having worked as Minority (Republican) Counsel to the Joint Economic Committee, Director of Domestic Policy for Sen. John Glenn (D-OH) and Chief of Staff for Rep. Bill Orton (D-UT). In each of these capacities, he covered budget and appropriations legislation. As a member of Rep. Orton's staff, he was also an associate staff member of the House Budget Committee.

"George brings a unique perspective to discussions of the federal budget because he has been on both the inside and outside of the process," said Roddy. "GalleryWatch.com is becoming one of the most widely recognized sources of federal budget matters and we are pleased to be able to share insight on how best to use that information."

Other speakers for some of the budget-related seminars include: Art Sauer, adjunct professor at George Mason University and a federal budget expert who worked 12 years as a senior analyst and deputy staff director for the House Budget Committee; Terry Bevels, who has 30 years experience dealing with executive branch budget and appropriations issues and with the House Appropriations Committee; Bruce Meredith, former staff member of the Defense Subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee, who was recognized by President Richard Nixon for his role in development of the Congressional Budget Act of 1974; and Joel Packer, senior professional associate in the Division of Government Relations of the National Education Association.

Newcomers to the legislative process will find seminars such as "Introduction to the Federal Legislative Process" a good starting point for discovering the intricacies of the process.

Other seminar topics are more specific, from "Effective Advocacy and Cyber-Advocacy," where participants learn the ins and outs of communicating with Congress in the information age, to "Helping Congress Understand Your Priorities," including how to communicate with Congress and other legislative professionals and how to use available resources to learn more about Congress.

"From the novice to the veteran legislative professional, our 2002 Seminar series addresses communications issues, tips and techniques for improving skills and lobbying efforts and creative ideas for building relationships on The Hill," said Roddy. "They provide a chance to gain information on a variety of topics from experts who offer a personal touch in sharing their personal and professional experiences."
